His Version
The story of Matt and Katie began in high school. Matt was the captain of the baseball team and the coolest guy in school. Matt met Katie in computer class, he couldn’t shake her adorable smile, her fun-loving personality and general good nature. He asked her on a date to Jiffy Lube after discovering that both of their cars needed oil changes. Secretly, Matt wanted to impress Katie with his white 1991 Dodge Colt sports car, the kind of vehicle that makes heads turn. The date was successful. They dated for awhile until it was time for college. Matt went to Towson University in Maryland and Katie went to Purdue in Indiana. They continued to date long distance. Matt began working 50-hour weeks after class to make enough money for flights to Indiana. Katie did the same. After a few years the distance was too much to handle so Matt decided to transfer to Purdue to be with Katie. Purdue was great. The couple studied hard, partied little, and grew to be a household name on campus. They missed the Homecoming King and Queen by a mere 3 votes, respectively. At graduation long distance tragedy struck again. Katie took a job in California, leaving Matt in New Jersey. Matt started working 60-hour weeks to afford flights twice the distance to California. Finally, Matt could take no more. He asked Katie to return to New Jersey to be his bride. They rode cross country by White Stallion and lived happily ever after.
Her Version (what really happened)
Matt and Katie started talking in an elective computer class during their senior year of high school. After waiting a while for the shy captain of the baseball team to ask her out, Katie decided to take the initiative and asked Matt on their first date to ‘help her’ get her car oil changed. She found his old car full of character, and loved the way he made her laugh. After spending most of their last year of high school together, going to different colleges was tough. Despite the distance the relationship stayed strong. When Matt transferred to Purdue they were finally able to make fun college memories together. They watched football games from the student section (never on a Homecoming court), enjoyed Breakfast Club, and college life. At graduation job offers brought opportunities for each on opposite coasts of the United States. At first they followed their careers, flying back and forth whenever possible. Finally, Katie was able to find a job that let her follow her heart as well, bringing her back to New Jersey where they started. Several months later Matt bought the ring, received her Dad’s blessing, and popped the question that she had been dreaming about. After seven years of transitions and changes, there is no doubt they will make it through the challenges that will continue to come their way.
